He lives in an area called Karanja in Kibera with both his parents and two siblings in a one room house partition with a wood board. They pay ksh 30 Euros for rent inclusive of electricity and buy water for an average of 5 Euros. The mother is a casual worker, who washes clothes for a living and also does house cleaning for people. She earns around Ksh 300 per month or 1000 per week depending on the job opportunity. The father is a shoe maker who earns money depending on the school season. Romeo is disciplined and a very hardworking boy whose performance is above average. He is a young determined boy with a bright future who enjoys playing football. Faith M. Faith is an 8 year old girl, living with her grandmother, her grandfather, her young uncles and aunties and her siblings at Zaire- Laini Saba in Kibera. She is in Grade 4 at Hope Restoration School, although her school attendance is poor, often missing half of each schooling term. Faith’s mother is a single mother after parting ways with the husband for he was abusive and a drug addict. Faith and her two siblings were then taken in by their grandparents, who already have three children of their own and two other grandchildren. They all live in a single roomed house that costs a rent of 35Euros per month. Her grandfather works as a Painter, earning 64 Euros per month, while the Grandmother works as a House help, earning 60Euros monthly though it is not usually enough to provide for all their needs. Faith shows potential despite her circumstances. If she gets education she will be able to free herself and her family from poverty. Ian M. Ian is a 12-year-old boy who is currently in Grade 6 at Vijito School. Ian’s father died when he was 4 years old. He was left with the mother and his young brother in their village in Runyenjes Embu-county. After two years the mother also died, and the children were left with their paternal uncle who is enabled differently and is a drunkard. The children were not getting enough food and so they would go to a neighbor to beg for food. The children begun going to beg in the streets soon afterwards. One of the neighbors from their hometown Runyenjes who lives in Nairobi found them on the streets of Nairobi and decided to rescue them to his home. It didn’t settle well with the wife, and it has been a struggle for the family because of the two orphans. The neighbor has two children of his own, and it has been difficult to provide food for Ian and his brother. Ian is hard working boy and is determined to change his life, his brother’s life, and the community at large. If given the opportunity to study by getting the financial support he will archive his dream of being a teacher. Collins M. Collins is a 9-year-old boy who is currently in grade 2 in Vijito School. Collins father died when he was a 1 year old child. He was left with the mother and his brother in their village in Runyenjes Embu-County. She enjoys dancing and aspires to become a Doctor. Veronica lives with her sister, aunt and grandparents in a three-room brick house owned by in Kavumbu, Tala. Veronica’s mother, passed away in 2019 making her grandparents assume guardianship for Veronica and her sister. Veronica’s grandmother earns an income of 32 Euros a month by selling fruits from her farm. Her grandfather supplements this by working as a farm laborer, earning 2 Euros per day and approximately 15 Euros per month, though his employment is dependent on the farming seasons. The combined income of Veronica’s grandparents is insufficient to cover all the family’s needs, including Veronica’s education. Veronica remains hopeful and resilient. Sponsoring her education would not only help her achieve her dream of becoming a Doctor but also benefit her family and society at large. Rose K. Rose K. is a 14-year-old girl at Matuu Estate Primary School. She is currently in Grade 8. She is enthusiastic of being a Nun and aspires to be a Physician in future. Rose lives with her aunt, her uncle and two cousins at Kavumbu in Tala. They live in a three room permanent house. Rose’s mother who was the sole breadwinner died of Pneumonia in May, 2024 while her father passed on in 2020 as a result of the same disease. Rose was therefore left to live with her maternal aunt who does not have a job but relies on her husband who is a Shopkeeper and enabled differently. The uncle earns 48Euros monthly from the Shop proceeds which is not sufficient to provide for the needs of his family as well as Rose’s education. Rose is still focused and hopes for a bright future despite all that she has gone through. If given assistance to continue her education, she would achieve her dream making her a beacon in the society and a role model for other children in the community. Maryanne M. Maryanne M. is a 10-year-old girl attending ABC Katheka Junior School, where she is currently in Grade 5. She aspires to become a Teacher. She lives with her mother, father, two sisters and a brother in Kavumbu, Tala. They reside in a three-room brick house that belonged to her late grandfather. Maryanne’s mother, who was the family’s primary breadwinner, is currently unable to work since she suffers from Pneumonia. Her father earns an income of 16 Euros per month by tilling people’s farms, which is insufficient to meet the family’s basic needs and to cover Maryanne’s educational expenses. The family used to receive significant support from Maryanne’s paternal uncle, but he tragically passed away. Maryanne remains hopeful and determined. Sponsoring her education would assist her in achieving her dream of becoming a Teacher which would enable her to contribute positively to the community and society at large. Lydia M. Lydia M. is a 15-year-old girl in Grade 8 at Kathaayoni Primary School. She lives with her mother and sister in Katheka, Tala, in a two-room Mud house while the brother has a separate room. Lydia’s mother is the sole breadwinner of the family after her father died in April 2023. She works as a peasant farmer, earning 16 euros per month, which is barely enough to meet the family’s needs and support Lydia’s education. Lydia is the family’s hope, especially after her eldest brother dropped out of school in Grade 8 due to insufficient funds, and her second eldest sister dropped out of school in Grade 6 due to a mental challenge that affected her ability to comprehend lessons. Despite these challenges, Lydia remains cheerful and hopeful for the future. Sponsoring her education would empower her to achieve her dreams, change her family’s narrative, and contribute positively to the society. Joshua M. Joshua M. is an 11-year-old boy currently attending Grade 7 at Kyekoyo Primary School. He has a passion for playing Football. Joshua lives with his parents and two sisters in Kavumbu, Tala. His parents, who are both Pastors, were assigned to Kavumbu Village to serve at the Salvation Army Church. The family resides in a four-room permanent house owned by the church. Joshua’s father earns 65 Euros per month from his pastoral duties, and his mother earns 55 Euros. Despite their combined monthly income of 120 Euros, they struggle to meet the family’s needs and cover Joshua’s educational expenses. Joshua is determined to pursue his education and fulfill his dream of becoming a lecturer. With the necessary support, he believes he can achieve this goal and in turn, contribute to educating other children. His dedication to his studies and his aspiration to pass on knowledge to future generations make him a promising student worthy of assistance. Joseph M. Joseph M. is a 7-year-old boy currently in Grade 1 at ABC Katheka Primary School. He lives with his mother, father, and sister in Kavumbu, Tala, in a two-room permanent house within his grandmother’s compound. Joseph’s parents are peasant farmers and do not have stable jobs. Their combined income from tilling other people’s farms is about 16 Euros per month. Unfortunately, both parents have struggled with drug abuse, which has affected their mental stability and overall functioning. The family relies on their farm for food but depends heavily on Joseph’s grandmother for other necessities, which she provides with the little she receives from her other children. The family disputes between Joseph’s parents and his grandmother have adversely impacted Joseph’s education. Despite these challenges, Joseph remains a cheerful and energetic boy. Sponsoring his education would provide him with the right opportunities to achieve his dreams and positively contribute to his community. Ethan M. Ethan M. is a 10-year-old boy in Grade 5 at ABC Katheka Primary School. He is energetic, enjoys playing Football, and is determined to learn. Ethan lives with his grandparents and a cousin in Kavumbu, Tala. They reside in a five-room permanent house owned by his grandparents. Ethan was abandoned by his mother at his paternal grandparents’ home after she separated from Ethan’s father. His father remarried and neglected all responsibilities toward Ethan, focusing on his new family instead. Consequently, Ethan’s care fell on his elderly grandparents. His grandfather is retired and no longer works, while his grandmother depends on the annual harvest from their farm, which brings in only 80 Euros per year—insufficient to cover Ethan’s education and their basic needs. Ethan is disciplined and determined to study and achieve his dreams. Sponsoring his education would empower him to reach his goals and benefit society at large. Trizah K Trizah is a 6 year old girl in PP2. She is the first born in a family of two children. She lives with the grandmother in Bangladesh Slums. The mother gave birth to Trizah while in Form Three. She opted to continue with School and left Trizah with her mother. The grandmother is the sole bread winner of the family. She has a small business in the slum where she cooks food for sale. She makes a profit of around 2.5 Euros which all goes to food. They have a double decker’s in both rooms and Trizah shares the lower double decker with the grandmother as her aunt sleeps on the upper decker. If Trizah is assisted, she will be able to achieve her dream of becoming an Engineer. Ibrahim S. Ibrahim is 4 year old boy who lives in Bangladesh Slum in Rongai. He is the third born in a family of three. Ibrahim lives with his mother along with his brother Nathaniel in a wooden single-room house. Ibrahim joined school in the play group stage two months ago. His mother is living with HIV and Aids which she contracted four years ago. The family shares one bed where all the four of them sleep. The rent of the house is around 6 Euros a month, excluding electricity. Ibrahims’s mother got a man who supported her during the time she received the news of her medical status. The man is a drunkard and is of no help financially, making Ibrahim’s mother the breadwinner of the family. The mother does any type of casual work that is available. Recently she developed a conditioned of convulsing which has made it harder to get job opportunities. The family is needy and if assisted Ibrahim will be able to get an education and help his mother and brothers in future. Nathaniel J. Nathaniel is 6 year old boy who lives in Bangladesh Slum in Rongai. He is the second born in a family of three. Nathaniel lives with his mother along with his brother Ibrahim in a wooden single-room house. Nathaniel is meant to join school Play Group but has not yet joined. Nathaniel’s mother is living with HIV and Aids which she contracted three years ago. The family shares one bed where all the four of them sleep. The rent of their house is 6 Euros a month, exclusive of electricity. Nathaniel’s mother got a man who supported her when she received the news of her medical status. The man is a drunkard and is of no help financially to the family, therefore making Nathaniel’s mother the breadwinner of the family. She does any type of casual work that is available but after having episodes of convulsions she has not been able to do any type of work. The family is needy and if assisted Nathaniel will be able to get an education and help his mother and the brothers in future. Mercy M. Mercy is a 10 year old girl who is in Primary School where she is in Grade 4. She is currently living in Bangladesh with her aunt. Mercy came with her mother to Bangladesh in 2018, when she was 4 years old. The mother left her behind in Bangladesh with the aunt who is now her sole guardian at the moment. The mother who makes calls occasionally to the aunt always refuses to disclose where she is. It has been challenging for the aunt to take care of Mercy because she already has three children of her own. Two of the Aunt’s daughters also have children of their own. The family of seven which are Mercy, her Aunt, Mercy’s two cousins, and three grandchildren live in a two room iron sheet house where they pay around 11 Euros per month. They pay around 2 Euros for Electricity but get water for free from the County Government. The Aunt who has a small kiosk where she sells vegetables, making a profit of around 2 Euros per day uses her earnings to support the family. Mercy sleeps on the floor of a worn-out mattress and walks four kilometers to school alone every day. She is very organized from what we gathered from the Aunt. Mercy loves singing and dancing. We also noted that she is misused by her older cousins as they make her take care of their children. If Mercy is supported, she will be able to achieve her dream of being a teacher. Trevor W. Trevor is a four-year-old boy who is in Baby Class in Okoka Primary School in Bangladesh, Rongai. He is energetic and hopeful for the future. Trevor is the third born in a family of three boys. The mother is a drunkard in Bangladesh Slum and the children stay with a grandmother who is also a drunkard. The family lives in a single iron sheet house paying a house rent of an average of 5 Euros monthly and pays an electricity bill of 3 euros per month. The water is supplied for free in the slum by the County government of Nairobi. The grandmother who is the sole bread winner used to farm in the riverbank but after the El Nino the space where she was planting vegetables for sale was carried away by the rains. Currently she washes clothes for people in Rongai to feed the family. They have one bed where the grandmother sleeps with the three children and the mother sleeps down on a mattress. If Trevor is supported, he will be able to achieve his dream of being a teacher and change his life and the life of his brothers and the entire family. Edward K. Edward is a six year old boy who is in Play Group in Okoka Primary School in Bangladesh. He is the fourth born in a family of four children. The mother has been in two failed marriages. After a small misunderstanding Edward’s father woke up one morning and sold everything they had leaving the family in an empty house. The family lives in a single room mud house paying a monthly rent of 11 Euros. They use an average of 3 Euros per month for electricity, but the water is available as it is free courtesy of the County Government of Nairobi. The mother is a fruit vendor, but it is very hard for her now since in Kenya when we are in the cold season not many people are buying fruits. In good season she makes a profit of 3 Euros in a day. We asked her if she gets support from the father where she explained that the father remarried and no longer supports them. They have one bed which is shared by all of them. Edward loves his family and likes to play paly with his friends after school. If supported Edward can achieve his dream of being an Architect and change his life, the life of his family and community at large.
